all anyone could tell us was that they weren't really a band, just a bunch of friends who happened to be on stage at the same time that night
My sister often makes music in that style. She knows a lot of musical people in Cambridge and sometimes turns up to events where they just form a band on the night then play.
Yup, I'm familiar with the concept. And I've heard some pretty good music resulting from such arrangements.
Just these guys did seem extremely together for something alledgedly unrehearsed. And, it all being rather unfamiliar music and an umfamiliar sound, I was disappointed not to be able to investigate stuff they'd recorded.
Wheras I was in Rome for much less interesting, work-y reasons and the place we went to eat[1] seemed to be using Salumi to mean any and all cold meatstuffs (ham, sausages, etc).
1 And have a gorgeous bottle of wine - the place had a wine list an inch and a half thick, and the food written on two sides of A4. Fine priorities.

Is that a title, like "Tommy"? Or is he just very fortunate in his choice of occupation?
(I'm enjoying envisioning a mountain view of chickpea casserole.)

Glad he got there eventually.
