I must admit, while I found it on that page a few days ago, I could only find it today by searching for the word 'October' (I could remember the month but not the day).

On the CERN website, which is being somewhat sluggish, unsurprisingly, the 'Official Inauguration' is on 21 October, but there's no date mentioned for the first collision. Presumably, they'll announce it now they know the thing works.
I was amused to note the BBC using the headline "Success for Big Bang experiment" when the beam first made it all the way round. OK, it was a success, but I feel the headline might have rather implied that the whole thing was finished and the Big Bang solved :)

Am I missing a word ? I could be missing a couple from the beginning of the quotation, but I think of that as editing rather than missing :)
