I love to read and I love to write. I have read countless books and fanfictions. I have a lot of respect and admiration for many, very talented writers. In regard to fanfiction, people invest time and effort into providing stories to readers for free. I do not always like what I read and some people write truly atrocious and their story lines are awful (IMO). If that is the case, I stop reading, if it was a short story, I shrug it off. But, I don't review these stories. I find nothing productive in saying "I don't like your story or writing style." I also don't say, "oh, you can't write, just forget about it." If I don't like something, I don't have to read it. But, people have the right to post what they want. No one has to write according to my taste.
When you write, you put a lot of yourself into the story and that often leaves you vulnerable. I appreciate and like constructive criticism and I am always willing to learn and improve. I don't claim to be an awesome writer, but I think I do ok. Regardless, I would continue writing if no one were interested in reading what I write. I share my stories because I like to give back to communities that have entertained me for years with awesome, free stories.
What I do not like nor appreciate are negative comments left anonymously. I respect that you think what I wrote stinks or that it lacks imagination, but at least give me the opportunity to reply. Also, If you don't like a particular type of story, don't read it. Also, it might not be too fair to judge a writer by one short one shot.
I wish people thought a bit before they write a review. And please, if you write a review, give the author a chance to reply to you.
Happy writing!
