So much love for pit bulls, except when they're ill-trained and wave their teeth around in "play." My workplace boarded one for a rescue organisation for several weeks (months?), and she is such a sweetie. She's rust-brown, except for her two white front paws and a blaze down her front that makes her look all Victorian-lady with blouse ruffles. It'd be funny if she weren't so pretty.

Actually, I was thinking (uhoh!) - the tourists aren't really all that bad. They're really kinda fun, for me anyway. They'll talk to you on the metro without having to be under the influence of alcohol/asst. drugs. Everyone is so paranoid here. *shivers*
And out on the Mall, there is no shelter from the wind in the winter. It's like several football fields all end-to-end with a few leafless trees, and the wind goes right down your collar and burns your ears. So you bundle up real tight, but every time you go inside, you have to take all the wrapping off and hope they have a coat check, because it can get really heavy. Yes, I do hate the cold, why do you ask?
Cherry blossoms, Fourth of July, and Thanksgiving, things can get crowded, but the rest of the year... I've never really considered the tourists to be a problem.
Of course, this could all just be an attempt to get you to come earlier. *looks innocent*
I believe you have confused "tourists" with "visitors" ... heh heh heh!
Visitors are those NICE people who just come to your home turf for a spell, and are nice and friendly. Tourists are the ones who leave their manners at home with the houseplants, clog the thoroughfares, leave garbage in their wake like Hansel and Gretel leaving a trail through the woods, and generally annoy everyone - in other words, those are the folks that make the rest of the world dread having Americans fly over!
OK, maybe those are just OUR definitions, but there's a difference in the sort of tourists who are nice for a chat, and those you wish would just go back home!
I hate the cold as well ... thus the idea to spend a week INSIDE the Smithsonian .... MWAAAAAAhahahahahahahaha!
*snort* I must be used to the tourists. They don't bother me all that much. Now the locals, who sometimes invade your personal space in a bad way - that bothers me. Nah, I take that back, about the tourists not bothering me. I tried to see the hope diamond once. It's a rock. Big deal. But it was in a room with what seemed like fifty other people, all moving and bumping, and the rock was moving too, on this little whirly pedestal. I ever mention I get motion sick? I couldn't breathe in there, and got out as fast as I could. Not fun.
I think the graphics on the Smithsonian's map imply that the Mall is a lot smaller than it really is. The Smithsonian area is huge. It can be several unprotected blocks from one museum to another, and that walk is cold. But I'll stop fussing. Really
