I missed this, somehow.

Iris Robinson does it again, only this time, it's worse.

"Hansard reported her as saying that "there can be no viler act, apart from homosexuality, than sexually abusing innocent children.""I just. What. And they refused to reprimand her? What ( Read more... )

Lord, I know. You have to wonder if she actually listens to herself.

They left a bit out. She actually said, "apart from homosexuality and sodomy". (The correct phrase works better when you're googling it. The BBC article didn't tell you much, and incidentally is taking a rather odd angle: everyone else is horrified at Robinson's comments, and the BBC says "she claims she was misrepresented".) I wonder how she's defining each? Because if she ever tries to claim that she has nothing against people being gay as long as they don't have sex, which these people often do (though she seems past that level by now), this would seem to counteract that, as placing them in opposition to each other puts "sodomy" in the "sex" category and "homosexuality" in the "something other than sex" category by contrast ( ... )

Freedom of speech makes things so awkward, but we can't do without it, so. There should be, like, boundaries, though. Better ones than we have now, at any rate.

*boggles at the Chris Brand stuff* That is...that's horrific! Urgh. People like him should be shot.

I really hope she does resign. It's the fact that someone in power can have such hateful opinions that gets to me.

Oh! Did you go with him, then? *beams* He is lovely.

Asking for a parliamentary reprimand is pointless. The response to the petitiion is correct; as Prime Minister Brown has no role in this. As party leader he would have...but she's not Labour, is she?

It's irrelevant in any case. At this point, by equating homosexuality with pedophillia, Ms Robinson has crossed the line into hate speech, which is illegal in the UK. We should be petitioning the police to investigate, not the PM.

What worries me is that the article I linked to was from July, and I haven't seen anything about what's being done. But hopefully something will be done, because you're right. It has crossed the line into hate speech, and no matter how much she says that she was misrepresented, it's obviously just her trying to dig herself out of the hole she knows she's got herself into.

(Also, as an aside, ICON LOVE. Hermione kicks ass. *hearts*)
