I had an excellent weekend hanging out with eugenesucks and sourpuss in Southend.

Today after running errands I had a Personal Cheese Party.  I had some amazing French wine (a Majestic werehouse just opened up down the canal from here.) and thought that it was sad I had no cheese to go with its deliciousness, so I ameliorated that today with several different ( Read more... )

Great! I can't wait to see you. I might be traveling around with Edie for a few days right when you get back but let's plan for the week following. If I'm in London it would be great for you to meet Edie while she's here.

can you view the image now?

Sometimes this automated LJ posting thingy is not all it's cracked up to be!

The lot of 20 imps has all kinds of stuff in it. Some, like absinthe and phantasm I know I can't wear because they are minty, but there are soooo many others...I'll be posting about them all! Haha.

I'm intrigued by Lulu-- it seems a great way to get work out to an immediate audience of friends, etc. while one works on the traditional routes of publishing. I'm excited to see the results.

Yeah-- I wish Absinthe smelled more like what it feels like to drink it rather than the actual licorice/wormwood smell of the stuff.

I think things like Lulu are the future of publishing, really- it makes so much more sense, especially for small run or OP titles. I figure I'll give it a try as an experiment.

Excuse me but I clicked alink in sourpuss's journal and found you. I ended up reading lots about smells and liked the way you describe them so looked at your profile.

To see that you list Shona and also John of the amazing Isengard totally amazed me since Joanna and I know each other only by an early lj coincidence but I know Sho & John irl...

On the basis of this strange resonance I've friended you, hope you don't mind.

Hi there. Lovely to meet you! I know John because of arnouveauho and pvcdiva-- he's fantastic! I met Shona at Whitby over a year ago. I was hoping to run into her again this past October but I didn't see her! It was crowded. I don't know if she would even remember me now.

I need two things:

a life coach and...

... to get on the BPAL horse. Why deny my attachment to scent?

xo

PS - that corset is awesome. Just... wow.

Haha-- thanks!

What kind of smells are you into? I have some spare imps. If any of them seem like smells you like I could send them to you so you could try it and see if it's something you want to try more of.

Lulu -- brilliant! Now I'll be able to read your book SOONER!

And, that corset has PVC ruffles as well as shiny buckles. I love it! I have a PVC corset similar to that but alas, no ruffles, and -- I don't think it suits me. Maybe I should follow your example & try it on, see if time has proven me wrong as well. I had a dream on Saturday night in which I was wearing it at a wedding, woke up thinking I should sell it.. now perhaps I'll just give it one more try.

Hehe-- it helps to have people who want to actually read the book-- the trad route of querying agents was getting me down, and I really just want to keep writing and do what it takes to make sure I can.

If the book reaches the people it should, well, then that's what I want more than anything.

That top isn't really a corset, which is bad because it doesn't contain me as well as might be, er, appropriate, but it's more comfortable too. As I get older I feel more amazed at the body I hated when I was younger, and that body hasn't changed all that much but my attitude toward it has. If I wear this out I will have to look for pieces to layer with it though I do feel rather amazing in it!

What do you wear yours with? I can picture you in it, mixing it up with something Victorian and steampunky.

I haven't worn it in a while -- I've thought several times of eBaying it -- but the last time I wore it I think I also had on a huge tulle skirt, a little cocktail hat with feathers, and a shrug made of deliberately holey fabric and stringy, fuzzy trim.

The shrug is absurd. I made it -- and it was the first garment I'd put together in over 20 years. The sleeves are too short and the pattern of the holes in the fabric doesn't line up anywhere; it goes in all directions. I wear the thing anyway. Usually it's dark where I'm going.

Maybe I'll try the corset on again. When I bought it, it was a little too big for me and I could lace it all the way closed; I'm bigger around the waist now and it probably fits better. I could use a reason to be appreciative that my waist is bigger!

I wish, I hope for the day when my (bad) attitude towards my body changes. I've held it in pretty much the same regard for ever, and it hasn't changed much either!

That shrug sounds amazing, actually. I was thinking of something like that for coverage, wondering if I could knit it out of cassette tape, or something equally synthetic. How did you make your shrug? Did you sew it?

Next time I'm in Portland, maybe we can wear our crazy pvc buckled corsets together somewhere.
