My mom is in the hospital dealing with her 5th case of cellulitis and I'm worried. My dad seems more panicky than usual about it - he just came down off a manic phase and he's swung into a depressive phase and added panic attacks, just for fun. My sister is dealing with the two of them alone and she's panicking. I offered to come out there to help ( Read more... )

I don't think it's wrong not to want to accrue more debt--that's perfectly understandable, especially since there's nothing concrete you can actually do by being there. But you've only got one family, you know? And sometimes emotional support counts for an awful lot.

I'd go in a heartbeat if they called and said they wanted me there - they haven't, though, so I'm hoping everything's okay.

Sorry I missed this and I hope she's doing better at this point... :-/

As for going there - you have to do what you think is best and be okay with that decision. My question is always, "If I don't/do go and something happens, will I be okay with that?"

(I added the "do go" because that was the case for me)

That's the real question because you can support someone there or not there, depending on the definition of support and how your family manifests it, you know?

Anyway, hoping it's all moot by now...
