fourth tree

Today, I headed down to Burbank to hike Wildwood Canyon, AKA "the back side of Stough Nature" with the geeks.  I could see a lot more without the thick fog hanging onto everything and didn't slip down without the beams that hold the trail in slick with moisture.  Instead, the twinkling city stretched out below.

California Live Oaks don't like much water, especially overhead water. They have a symbiotic fungus-y thing that if it gets too much water will upset the equilibrium and kill the tree. This is why you should never plant stuff you have to water under them.

Lovely tree. Looks more like a weeping willow to me :)

That's how some of the trees out there on the hills look to me. They wouldn't swing the same in a wind, but the structure of the branches makes and drooping shape.

Maybe not the same kind of oak I'm used to then :) Might be able to figure it out from a leaf, but not always that good with native trees.
