46,207/52,000. I'm thinking that my "solution" to the dilemma will be to simply write two different versions of the ending... Not sure yet which I will write first, though I have to decide soon. Only one scene today, but it's relatively long.

This is set at the beginning of season 5. The fic will be John/Rodney, NC-17, and include a warning for ( Read more... )

I'm glad you got over your difficulties with the storyline and figured out what you want to do with it! I'm really happy to see a chapter today. It must be rough for John feeling the emotional upheaval between talking about his relationship with VR Rodney and dealing with Rodney's unpredictable responses. I think you're doing really well with Rodney's character. He's acting very logical and curious - trying very hard to solve a problem, like the scientist that he is. I'm very interested to know how he'll resolve his dilemma.

Next scene will give us some background why John reacted particularly badly here. I think John would really like to believe that they're already where they need to be and all that's necessary is Rodney's "okay" so that they can live a life similar to the one in the machine. He knows intellectually that this might be difficult for Rodney, but in his heart they're in love and belong together and they both know it ...

Thank you :)

Hmmmmm...Rodney put his foot in his mouth, didn't he? He's just trying to figure things out, though...why *did* the machine think Rodney was in love with John? Or would be able to fall in love with him? You know, all those Ancient things have that 'mental' component to them - and we know John is good at manipulating Ancient technology...but no, I really think perhaps the machine could have been programmed to believe (it is Ancient, after all, and suposedly advanced) that humans (Rodney included) are bisexual by nature and monosexual by choice. Or not.

Just a thought. :o)

I hadn't actually planned on doing a reveal on how the machine came to its conclusion. In my mind the machine has access to the whole database including medical scans, which means Rodney's brain, so it could basically read his mind and knew he could love John. But that's just my theory and it could be just as well a random thing, based on John's feelings.

To me it matters what John and Rodney do in reality. I just use the machine as paradoxically both a tool to bring them together and keep them apart ;)

Thank you!

P.S. I forgot to mention that I really enjoyed this part - I like the dialogue! Felt true to character, that John would want to get away from his emotions.
