So, the other day I was thinking how disappointed I was that Fruits Basket doesn't have much room for geekery. For the most part, I like series that challenge me intellectually somehow. Whether it's the symbolism of Utena, the history behind Peacemaker Kurogane and Rurouni Kenshin, even Yami no Matsuei has a lot of room for exploring the psychology ( Read more... )

Hm. I think the issue is more that Tohru in the anime is a catalyst, but if you pay enough attention in the manga, you start to see her flaws, and that is she won't ask for squat... she's the sort of person who wil lbe consumed in the end by others' greed and crap.

So she is deeply deeply flawed, just not in the obvious way.

I used to geek out over Furuba in the beginning with my theories on the conspiracy. Rabid fangirls pissed me off though and I left Fruitygroups and most of the fandom. I still enjoy the manga, although the art kind of is meh.

Nerd alert: I have a printer's copy of volume 1 ;). I submitted fanart after a call for it, and they were kind enough to send me the proof copy.
