[Film] Swing your razor wide, Sweeney! Hold it to the skies!

SWEENEY TODD IS LOVE. IS LOVE.

Mmmkay, first off, I love musicals, and Sweeney Todd was never among my favorite of the Sondheim musicals to listen to. I can appreciate that it's one of Sondheim's more (most?) complicated pieces and I've always liked that he uses.. unusual notes (there's got to be a not!suck way of saying that, but I have no ( Read more... )

Now, here's where you're probab;y going to beat me with fangirl. I haven't seen the film yet, but the boy that plays Antony Hope? Jamie? I know him. His mother works with mine. He's a very nice lad, annoyingly so. Needs a haircut, mind.

How cool!! :D Is he actually, you know, a trained singer, or did he just happen to be good at it? Anyway, he's super adorable in this movie! TELL HIM I SAID SO.

And then don't tell him that I was half convinced that Alan Rickman was going to rape him. Because Rickman was very rapey in this. Oh so much with the rapey.

He went to Bedales school, which is a posh boarding place the specializes in arts and drama. His Dad is a guitar specialist, and his brother is choir boy, and his Mum works for a record company. In other words: he grew up with music, a lot.

I don't actually want to see the film... it's a bit weird seeing someone you know's face blown up on a cinema screen.

Which is wrong, as by rights I would be seeing this film- Burton and Depp!

My mother rather embarassingly asked Jamie if Depp could sign an autograph and it could be auctioned for charity, but apparently that's not something you ask on set. Who wouldda thought?

Have fun!! This movie is love on a stick. It is a solid block of love, carved lovingly by Tim Burton and Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter and presented to the audience surrounded by heart shaped chocolates and blood.

... well, yeah, that is pretty much what it's like.

wow! Love the review!

I think I've been living under a rock. I didn't even know it was out. o.0* But I fell in love with Sweeney Todd two years ago, while essaying musicals - never got to see it though, so this? I'm dying with anticipation. Burton/Depp/Bonham-Carter... can't go wrong with that.

I've been so so curious about Depps singing. I just can't imagine him being able to hold a tune in the slightest. :/ But your review has given me hope. I'm so tempted to run and see it now... by myself... but damn, I have to work. >.<*

P.s. Loved the drawing.

I really liked Depp's performance in this, both as an actor and a.. well, singing actor. I stand by my feelings on musical movies with actors with unpolished singing voices being awesome (what can I say, I think they're more fun to listen to) so I guess that's something to keep in mind when you hear him for the first time. I think he really shines in "My Friends" and "Epiphany"--I mean, he holds the tune, but more importantly, he's SO SWEENEY it's astonishing ^_^

P.S. Thanx :3
