Funerals, no matter how nicely done, were damned depressing.
The flowers looked pretty enough, Jack guessed, though the smell of them made his nose twitch. There was a picture of Evelyn up by the pulpit and her smile made his eyes water. He sniffled and stared down at the snowy ground. There was nothing that could make this day better, nothing to ease their pain.
A tear drop ran down his cheek, icy cold, and in the middle of the service, he felt the chill of grief settle around him. In the chair next to him, he could feel the wave of bitter fury emanating from Bobby.
There would be retribution, of that Jack was certain. Sure and swift and terrible and he hated the small part of himself that wanted to join in on the vengeance that his brothers would wreak.
In the midst of the service, Jack grieved.
