Spicy Carrot-Sweet Potato Soup with Rice

Still on my soup kick...came home yesterday in falling snow and thought "time for some carrot-ginger soup".  It evolved into the recipe below.  As with any time I make soup, all measurements are rough and can be adjusted to taste.  I also used an immersion blender to make the soup smooth and velvety; if you don't have one, I'd either ladle the soup
