stems?

i bought brocolli at whole foods and i'm wondering can you eat the stems? if so how do you fix them because their extremly bland, even when i dip it in hummus.

I steam them and stick 'em in my thai curries!

Peel them, chop them up, and add them to the rest of the broccoli.

peeling the stems? how do you do that?o.o i didn't know you needed to peel the parts that didn't have the flowerettes.

I use a vegetable peeler to scrape off the tough parts, then thin slice them and eat them like chips.

You don't often have to, unless it's chewy/hard on the outside.

You can definitely eat them, raw, boiled, steamed, etc. Anything you can do to a food, you can do to a brocoli :)

I love the stalks. As mentioned above, peel (or slice) off the outer "woody" part first. That part can get chewy. ;)

I slice it about 1/4 inch thick throw them in stir fry or stew.

When I was little my mom used to make "broccoli buttons" out of the stems. Slice them up into little rounds and steam them.
