The move is a good idea. I'm still having problems adjusting and dealing with things I find overwhelming (like having to walk out of the main hall because there were so may people). See the locked post on the pub trip after the festival. Quite a number of us are still disturbed/uncomfortable/stressed by what happened.
But I'm glad I have come. It's the coping with it that is what I struggle with.
Read that - didn't sound too bad (but then I'm male, 6'3" instead of 5' nothing), but I get the idea... they are progressive but still in a "us vs them" attitude that seems a little more extream than Perth (and really, that is hard). But I would bet good money that if there were more veg*ns here there would be a similar attitude around.
The problem I had was *not* one of personal safety, or even the safety of my close friends (aside from B we were all well out of the way in the corner- and B can hold his own) it was that I have never seen the anti-vegan and anti-AR sentiment so strong in daily life. It's one thing to make up stupid arguments, it's another to say that we aren't welcome (after we had well be welcome for the previous hour) because of who we are.
Alot of it comes from the history of the AR movement in the UK. Grassroots activism has been alive and well here for 200 years or so (hunt sabs, active veg movement etc) which means that there are historical expectations of the way we are expected to act. ie we are all violent nutters and clearly *anyone else* is better than us.
Sounds like you had a fab day. I had to laugh as I met my boyfriend Slow Dating - a less frenetic form of Speed Dating - he was of course the only Vegan thre out of the 19 guys I met, and we hit it off straight away.
Hello anonymous vegan person! I know people who have met their future spouses as the result of speed dating, it think it's quite a interesting concept.

You haven't sounded happy in ages, and now this is a new you! - I am so happy for you (and a bit jealous).
We miss you here - but stay there, it suits you to have such a cheery attitude.
