Nothing is quite like lounging around the balcony on a breezy, generally perfect summer afternoon, listening to Iron & Wine and drinking iced coffee.  Samuel Beam's voice is impossible to encapsulate with words.  I'm usually adverse to beards, but I will make an exception for him, just for his voice alone.

I'm behind on Inception fic reading again ( Read more... )

Speaking of Scandinavian books/movies have you checked out the Millenium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson? All three books are out in North America now, you might find them interesting.

PS: Saw Inception, went in pretty spoiler free. It wasn't bad, but it left me a bit cold. I feel like I need to revisit Momento, and the Prestige, which I hear is excellent but I haven't seen it yet.

I did read the the Millenium series, yes, long before all of them were out in North American market (ordered the second book from Amazon UK), because I can be obsessive that way.

Did you? There were a number of things I liked about it, especially the general atmosphere, but I had issues with the male protagonist. And because the fictional investigative field in the story overlaps slightly with what I do at work sometimes, I had a little hard time buying into Lisbeth's magical abilities - Asperger syndrome or not. Otherwise, it was fun.

Love Memento, but The Prestige was somewhat problematic for me.

...I'm beginning to sound oddly picky.

I have (well not actually read but listened to on audiobook). I went through all three last fall and winter and I keep going back to the audiobooks periodically. The narrator is a kind of comfort voice to me ( ... )

Lisbeth is a superwoman. I liked the idea of her, but she was definitely more of a conceit than a real, breathing character. And yeah, if she didn't need physical rescuing, she definitely needed some emotional rescues, didn't she ( ... )
