heartworm meds and microchipping?

Hi guys, I've never had a dog before and I'm trying to take the best care of my guy as I possibly can.

Heartworm medication - are there any vegan brands? What do you give your dogs? Is monthly heartworm medication a must?

Microchipping - when I was last at the vet, my boyfriend and I asked about microchipping and the price is surprisingly

Revolution is (as far as I know) vegan. The poster above is correct, though -- you do want to get your dog tested for heartworms before giving any preventative. Some of them (Revolution included) do not play well with active heartworm infections. If he's been off preventative for more than a month or two, have him retested in about three months. Most heartworm tests check for heartworm antigen, and if the infection is new and there aren't a lot of adult worms yet, the test may not register it
