Vegan in Kiev, Ukraine?

I'm off to Kiev for a few days and was wondering if anyone had any experience visiting here and being vegan? Happycow tells me there are two vegetarian restaurants and generally guidebooks have painted a moderately grim picture of "vegans will die as there is only meat and cream to eat". Does anyone have any actual experience or suggestions?

Actually, I've never been to Ukraine, but in other parts of eastern Europe, my strategy has been to go to the one restaurant with vegan options a bunch of times and make the rest of my meals at the hostel.
