Shoes
So I've made 2 Vegan Shoe purchases and I wanted to review them so others looking for shoes can steer closer or further away.
So at the beginning of the year, I purchased these adorable stylish slip ons from:
Brand: Alegria
Type: Classic Team Green
For like 85 bucks
Vegan Slip Ons At first, I thought,"they need to be broken in." So I broke them in- they're uncomfortable no matter what and my feet hurt in them halfway through the day. I walk a lot at my job sometimes-comfort is necessary.
so after 6 months, I scrimped up another 50-100 bucks and this is what I got this time:
Brand: Saucony
Type: Jazz sneaker for Men (I have wide feet)
Saucony Sneaker for 65 bucks- and they're amazing! comfortable as can be and haven't even had to deal with the "breaking in" stage. It even had 2 sets of strings included- tan and blue.
Books:
The Green Diet: Weight Loss for Vegetarians by Roz Denny
It was recommended to me despite it's vegetarian title- they said it was easily veganized and the rest was good solid info. I didn't like this book because it broke no new ground for me- as a hobby nutrition 'fanatic' this book came off as simple down to earth information that I think any average person could easily google up. Perhaps if you've never learned an ounce of basic nutrition, like what a calorie is, and you want to be a vegetarian, this would be a good book to start your journey with.
The Way to Eat by David L. Katz
Now this was a down to earth I could learn from. It wasn't vegan, geared towards more of a balanced healthy omnivore diet but that wasn't what I was reading it for. It brings up valid points. The underlying message was non judgmental towards overweight people and was simply trying to guide you to understand how humans evolved to CRAVE sugar, fat, etc because that made sense then- and in a short 100 yrs since food has become quite abundant, we have yet to evolve to be the sort of creatures that expend hundreds of calories just breathing. Perhaps that may be lame science, but it made me feel better- being overweight, I'm jealous of the slender people I can match calorie for calorie and I get fat and they don't. Hey, at least I admit it ^_^"
Food
I really like Soy Delicious Vanilla- better than I remember plain dairy vanilla tasting. and I put the Reeses Hard shell stuff on it-- totally unhealthy but no dairy or eggs ^_^ which can't be said for fudge. then I top it again with walnuts. Yum. haha, not really a review, since I'm sure all of you have tried it thus far.
Thanks all~
