Brand available in Australia of vegan vitamin D, as in D2?

Can't seem to find a brand available in Australia for vegan vitamin D2, at least not yet. I don't want to order online, but some stores have said to me if I find a brand, they'll get it for me. Yay. So I turn the vegan sages ( Read more... )

Link to the study in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, in case anyone needs it :)

I don't think it's currently possible to just pick up a bottle of D2 in stores (eg., pharmacies) in Australia, but I know someone who imports it from America, and if he doesn't see this post in the next couple of days and answer himself, I'll ask him :)

I don't import it any more, because the Cruelty-Free Shop has started selling it. :-)

The brand I used to import was Dr Fuhrman's. The Cruelty-Free Shop's brand is Freeda: http://crueltyfreeshop.com.au/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_11_37&products_id=716

yes D2 and D3 are both converted to the same thing in the body, 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D. So called because hydroxyl groups are at the 1st and 25th Carbons on the ring.

So since they get converted to the same thing, it really doesn't matter which you take. Who has been telling you otherwise?!

I can't remember where I read it, one of hundreds of abstracts I've read, but there was research suggesting otherwise, over the last decade or so. So, I was glad to see this more recent research.

Yet, staff at one pharmacy were sure D3 was much better. And as someone says above, only one, brand, in one limited location in all of Australia is available. I guess since D3 is from sheep wool, and we have millions of sheep, there's pressure to use them.

I'm still thinking of getting a UV lamp and irradiating my own mushrooms instead, although dosage is likely to be impossible to quantify.

Can I ask why you need vitamin D whist living in Australia?

We have the highest skin cancer rate in the world for one thing and I'm allergic to all the skin cancer lotions (ie sun tan lotions) that I've tried. Using them reduces the vitamin D the skin produces anyway ( ... )

Epic reply wasn't it? Oddly though, if I could be, I'd be a sun worshipping pagan! :D
