I'm moving from my old glass rat tank to a barred one so they'll be able to climb levels ans breathe a lot better. From experience, what's your best and reasonably priced brand?
the rat manor is pretty nice. some people buy ferret cages because they're so gigantic. just make sure the bars are not spaced too far apart.
also.. make sure you cover the wire floors with cardboard or wood or felt or something. long-term running/standing on the wire can cause bumblefoot, which is quite painful.
i'm sure your rats will love the new habitat. i know mine did (when i had them!)
fun things to do: tie a rope to the top of the cage. they love to climb them and swing from them. they also really like hammocks. don't bother buying a ferret one from the pet store (too expensive). just make one out of some felt from the fabric store.
This. Also, I got a hammock recently from this place on etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6756651 The seller does rat rescue too so you know your money is well spent :)
Do you happen to know what type of 'fleece' is used in some of the products? I haven't looked on Etsy for material things so I don't know if the term tends to refer to animal wool or synthetic fibres.
I initially bought the Martin's Cages rat cubbyhole for my rats, but now they are living in my ferrets old Martin's, which is a ferret villa. They seem to appreciate the space. I just got them a hammock and they haven't figured that out quite yet!
Oh the cardboard boxes are awesome! But be sure to switch them out when they get too dirty. But my rats loved them. Though they always chewed their own hole to get in and out of while never using the one I made. XD
