The Goode Family

May 27, 2009 22:43

Anybody see this? It's from the same guy that made King of the Hill and Beavis and Butthead.

It's about a vegan family always trying to do the right thing. I watched an episode - not that funny, but it's pretty interesting to see a cartoon about vegans. I can't imagine this lasting.

Here's the IMDB link

I haven't watched it yet, but I'll watch it soon. Apparently it's been getting pretty good reviews. I'm intrigued. Hopefully I won't be as disappointed as I usually am when people poke fun at liberals and vegans. It can be really funny, but it seems to fall short all the time.

It's pretty over the top. There are some funny lines. The "good" family make fun of Christians, ridiculous flagpins, the republican girl on The View, purity rings, abstinence, etc. The truth is... some people really are like them... so "liberal" and "accepting" of alternative lifestyles that they are completely intolerant of the "average" person. The dad is accepting of all people and more logical than the wife who is this super crazy vegan who wants to "out do" others when it comes to being eco-conscious.

For instance, she didn't bring her own bag to an organic grocery store and everybody looked at her like she was evil. She was freaking out until she realized what to say. She told the cashier that she didn't want to buy a tote bag or use paper/plastic because the totes are made in sweatshops - so she walks out of the store holding all of her groceries in her arms.

It could have potential but there weren't any moments where I really laughed out loud. My reaction was more like, "Ah... that's... funny."

Yeah, I just finished the episode and I agree. It's somewhat amusing, but not laugh out loud worthy. And I agree with a comment below that the vegan dog bit is much more ignorant than funny. I'm hoping it'll get better quick or be canceled soon.

I watched it today. I don't know... I don't like how it portrayed the vegan dog (starving and always craving meat). I thought a few parts were funny, but all-in-all, not that great. I'm hoping the next episode is better. I do like though, that the family is at least TRYING to do the right thing and not giving up. Maybe it'll expose more people to veganism?

It'll be interesting to see where this goes- I can't imagine Mike Judge portraying vegans in a flattering light.

Maybe a stupid question, but where can you watch that episode? I'm outside of the US so sites like Hulu don't work for me.

Nevermind, already found it. Didn't think it was that funny, but maybe it'll get better.
