a (not so) hairy situation

I have really fine hair and zero volume. If my hair were to rock up to an ER it would be pronouned DOA. It's lifeless.

Are there any products on the market (in Australia, please) that add volume or does anyone have any recipes for natural fixes that might give my hair a lift?

I could incorporate my hair dryer into my morning routine but I'm prone to ( Read more... )

hmm... i would try to up your intake of b-vitamins and see if that makes a difference. avocado does wonders for my hair in every way, shape, and form. eating it, mashed up and used as a hair mask, whatever.

supposedly it can be used as a facial mask, but haven't tried that yet...

I've always wanted to try hair masks but have always been put off because my hair is half way down my back and I always have to buy two of anything hair related (two treatments, two packs of colour etc) just to cover it. But I frankly, it sounds like fun and I'll try anything once!

Thanks!

if it's that long and volume-less, you need to cut in layers to give the illusion of volume. just go to your hairdresser, and say you want long layers cut in. don't worry, it wont make your hair any shorter :)

i have nothing to tell you about products to make it more volumizing, i'm always trying to calm mine down !

Cocoa butter? mindfulness April 10 2009, 09:07:57 UTC
Some people use cocoa butter. I don't know any details. It just occurred to me that if wax is used in some formulas, why not another saturated fat, and the first vegan one that I thought of was cocoa butter. Maybe coconut oil too? So there might be a product out there that contains either of these oils. Experimenting might be a good or bad idea. Cocoa butter is also used to flatten hair and protect the ends.

Cocoa and coconut are extremely conditioning for hair as well :D

I'll definately have a look and see what I can find. Someone recommended some Lush products which contain coconut oil so I think you're onto a good thing with your suggestion!

Thanks so much!

actually, there's a great shampoo at Lush, called Big, which would give your hair definite oomph. it's made with sea salt, lemon, and coconut oil, and it really gives your hair a boost. it won't lather as much as you're used to, but it cleans just as much. just massage the shampoo right into your roots, and BAM! volume

Big shampoo by Lush is brilliant, I have very fine hair too and Big has done nowt but wonders for my hair. Its a fairly weird one to use but you soon get used to it, use it twice for boost.

Not sure if you'd have a lush store near you but its on the Oz mail order.

I second this. Big rocks! I've also had success with two of Lush's solid shampoos, Seanik and the Soft Shampoo bar. They give hair a boost and volume.

Thank you so much! I just had a lightbulb moment while looking on the Lush website. If my eyes don't deceive me the Big label says "Does your hair go flat and floppy in soft water?" (someone tell me if I'm wrong) and by George, I think that's it! Soft bloody water!

I used to have really thick hair I could barely get a band around and then I moved, got a hectic job and suddenly I went from using a jumbo sized claw clip to a medium/small and I had no idea why. I thought maybe I had a vitamin deficiency but supplements and eating better didn't help. Meanwhile, my cutlery rusts at an exceptional rate because the water's soft. And my brain did not make the leap that maybe the two problems were related ( ... )

I love Big. I'm fairly broke these days but I still make the trip to the local Lush store to buy Big. I just have to go with a friend who makes sure I buy nothing else!

I love the way it makes my hair feel (and I have thick hair) and the way it smells.

I have major issues with this too. My hair gets so flat! I have extremely fine hair and it's very frustrating.

I live by Lush solid shampoo bars. They're amazing. I would also suggest (if you don't already) cutting your hair shorter, and ironically, only washing your hair every other day. I used to be one of those people who thought I HAD to shower every day, otherwise my hair would go greasy and flat, but I swear my hair seems to be healthier now that I only wash it every other day. I also have less trouble with my hair going flat, now that I keep it about chin length (as opposed to below the shoulders). Although I'm sure if you didn't want to go super short, you could probably just keep it above the shoulders and be fine.

I'm also definitely beauty lazy, which is why the less I can do, the better (my hair is so short now, I almost never brush it because I roll out of bed, and it looks fine, lol).

well when you shampoo you strip your hair of essential oils and stuff

i've found that keeping up on my b vitamins and not shampooing my hair as often helps a LOT. i do the no poo method every other day, or every two days depending on how sweaty and gross i get too. hope this helps.
