Hi there, my boyfriend and I will be road tripping from the SF Bay Area through Salt Lake City to the Boulder area next week. We've been looking up some places (yay Yelp!) we can stop to eat along the way and to be honest....we're a little overwhelmed! It seems like there are so many good places ( Read more... )

I used to live in Boulder and my aunt still does, she just told me recently that they opened two Whole Foods there. And there's still Wild Oats. And I know there's a co-op, and a few other stores that are really vegan friendly. Boulder is a pretty good place for vegans. Well, in general really, I loved it. :D

We're actually going to be staying in Longmont. Do you have any suggestions for things to do and see? We are definitely going to Estes park but that's about all we have planned so far, haha.

Longmont is just up the road from Boulder. I don't really remember there being much of anything there, I'd guess you'd probably have to go to Boulder for the hippie-granola-crunching type things. I worked in Longmont and drove there from Boulder everyday. :P And Boulder is a pretty town to hang out, and look around. The outdoor mall on pearl street is a nice stroll... although right now I don't think anyone would want to be outside.

Are you still planning on going with all the crazy weather? My aunt that lives in Boulder has actually been visiting us for the past few months and was planning on driving home this week but put it off because of the snow. She talked to a few friends and they actually had stayed home from work! And in Boulder it's usually life as usual with snow, so it must be bad. Hopefully things will be cleared up and looking good for your trip! *crosses fingers*

This might be a bit dated, but it's really comprehensive:

My favorite place in Boulder:

http://vgburgers.com/

Not very upscale, but I looooove the hemp soft serve ice cream.

SLC has some awesome food. they have a mongolian bbq place called mr.changs, they have vertical dinner (dinner food), they have sage's (which has awesome pizza), I am told shambala is great and I am also told that evergreen is really good.

in boulder go to vg burger, I hear its awesome

wild oats got bought out by whole foods, but you can check happycow.net and they will narrow it down alot.

Definitely check out Boulder Baked while you're in Boulder. It's on Broadway between Pearl and Walnut (right downtown, you can't miss it), and they have the BEST vegan cupcakes ever. I go through withdrawals without them, I swear.

In SLC you have to go to Vertical Diner!! Or Sages they're owned by the same guy. The Pie has vegan cheese pizza and vegan cheese pullaparts. Este has vegan cheese pizza. Star of India has a ton of vegan curries, mention you don't do dairy they're really helpful. Cafe Shambala is Tibetin food.

I'd stay clear of Evergreen and Himilayan Kitchen and Long Life Vegi House (not really vegan).

For groceries all the Wild Oats are Whole Foods now. Harmons has great nature sections... So does Smiths Marketplace. Then there's Good Earth.

Hope that helps. Any questions I'd love to help!

The Pie has vegan cheese pullaparts??? How did I not know this? This really is probably the best news I have received in years.
