I don't know of any good vegan places for dinner out there, but if you have a chance to get out for lunch, there's a really weird place called the Country Life Restaurant (I say "weird" because it's part of some bizarro Christian alternative hospital and it's cafeteria/buffet style, but it's 100% vegetarian and mostly vegan, IIRC).

Ex-Chattanoogan here! Another lunch spot is Niedlov's Breadworks; the Green Thumb is vegan, as are all of the artisan breads.

Dinner is pretty difficult. If you aren't looking for something fancy, Greenlife Grocery on the north shore has sushi and usually at least two vegan soups, sorbetto, etc. They have actual dining areas. They claim to have three vegan pizzas in rotation, but I have never seen one out.

Going out to dinner for me in town was always about sushi; Rain on Lee Hwy is a great Thai spot. That would be my suggestion for the birthday dinner.

Never tried 212; seemed hopeless to me.

Kind of like this comment, actually :/

Oh, excellent, well Greenlife will have all the groceries you could possibly need, so that's convenient. Have fun!

Another ex-Chattanoogan here. 212 isn't really promising, but there's a little Thai restaurant downtown called Thai Smile that has always pleased me.

I second Greenlife's food. I was there last week and ate lunch there - got some really good soup and a fantastic barley salad. They have a hot food bar that usually has vegan options as well, and they always have vegan baked goods in the bakery. Say hi to Lydia while you're there. :D

Country Life is pretty decent, but here's a heads up on how they do things: they're only open from 10 to 3, and they have one or two menu offerings every day. Their bakery is pretty worthwhile, though. If you like your food spicy, bring a shaker of Tony's, because the food's kind of bland (but satisfying.)
