Wool info please

Dec 22, 2008 12:51

Hi, I was looking for more information on the evils of wool but the three links available on the community info page are broken and the only wool tag I could find in here was sadly lacking.

Educate me please?

Thanks.

wool is really just a by product of the meat industry, farmers don't make alot of money off the wool.

There are many many sheep farmers in Australia who breed sheep specifically for their wool and the sheep live a LOT longer than "meat" sheep due to the fact they can only be shorn once a year. In fact Australia's early (non-indigenous) history was closely intertwined with the wool industry.

Thanks, that info is great! And of course by "great" I mean "horrifying." ;)

yeahhh....

and beyond that, animals should be able to exist for their own purposes, and not to serve as a commodity to humans for any reason.

But of course, I was just looking for something that could be explained to someone non-vegan (as "It's not ours to take" often leads to shit-storm arguments).

As a mod could you please update the links on the comm info page?
