I recently started having food comas almost every time I ate a decent-sized meal, and have been wondering what was going on. I do tend to skip meals and then eat semi-large meals to make up for it, so based on the comments that seems to be a likely culprit.
Also, I very likely do not drink enough (by far), so that may also be part of the issue. (I used to work in a place that provided free water for employees and so was constantly drinking throughout the day - and now I work in a portable unit where the nearest drinking fountain is halfway across campus. So I usually go the entire workday without drinking anything.) I've also switched from eating a lot of processed food to eating almost all cheap and healthy staples, which may or may not have anything to do with it.
Anyway, good luck!, and please write again if you find a solution. It's extremely inconvenient to want to take a nap after every decent meal. :/
I *know*! I have 2 very large assignments to finish before term ends on friday and right now I am totally dependent upon food and showers to keep me going. Wanting a snooze after dinner is seriously unhelpful.
I suspect though, that I have a vaguely sluggish metabolism, so it would make sense that eating larger, infrequent meals may be contributing to this problem. Particularly, if the excess of carbs was what was giving me the "get up and go" energy.
I too tend not to drink quite enough water, though this is vastly improved upon whenever I think to keep my Sigg bottle filled and on my desk. It may sound silly, but I find them (Siggs) to be very pleasing to use, and I think it actually encourages me to drink more. :-P
I tend to pump through a couple of reps/sets with free weights or walk about 3.5mph for 20 minutes when I'm feeling tired. What sucks is motivating yourself to do it when you are feeling tired- 'specially when you're studying or whatnot...
