I am from Philadelphia, and I am traveling to California in about a month (I leave on August 20th) and I am going to be starting out in San Jose, and driving up to San Francisco, and then to Kelsey, CA (My mom and sisters have friends they are meeting up with there) But to get to my point, I was wondering where some good vegan eats are in ( Read more... )

your welcome! when I lived in San Jose I would just go up to san francisco to eat since they had more options... so I'm such a pusher for these places!

good luck!

I would suggest checking out this listing of veg and veg-friendly restaurants.

As someone who has had the (mis?)fortune of living next to Herbivore on a multiple occasions and near all of their locations, I would disagree that it's a "must" but maybe because I am wholly sick of it and find the quality of the food and service to be unreliable at best. If you go, know the sandwiches can be safe (unless they sound too good to be true, in which case they are) as well as the noodle dishes (sometimes). Good luck.

However, if you like Japanese food, then Cha Ya is a expletive MUST MUST MUST.

If you have $50 or so per person to spend, do treat yourself to Millennium.

PS
If you make it over to the East Bay, swing by Nabolom Bakery for a vegan sticky bun or uber healthy muffin.

I went to Ananda Fuara (which is vegetarian, but with many vegan dishes) with my grandmother (an omnivore), and now she goes there before every concert she goes to downtown (except on Sundays, when they're closed).

I've never been to Millenium, but one person (an omnivore) told me that it's his favorite restaurant.
