Stop me if this is to "intense".

I have started to send mass emails out to people on craigslist that list pets free to good homes. I am urging them to reconsider giving their pet to a no-kill shelter or demanding an adoption fee from perspective adopters.
I hope it is just ignorance that keeps people from realizing free pets go to labs, mills, and dissections.

wow. I didn't realize this happened. We got two of our cats and the dog from craigslist and my sister got her chinchilla from there. They were all rescues too as when we went to get them we almost had to kill a B****. That's horrible that they go to labs and stuff. seriously.

As do I. I am thankful for our animals we got from there though.

Rescue animals are the best!
I'm getting really hostile replys back from people. Like "Why is it your business what I do with my pet?".
It's my business to have a conscious.
The ads have always pissed me off, I'm glad I've gathered up enough balls to say something.

"I wish you wouldn’t give away your animal for free. Even if you think they are going to good homes, most “free pets” end up in laboratories, pet mills, or dissection classes. Please reconsider taking them to a no-kill shelter, or insisting that people pay an adoption fee.Thank you."

The vet check is a wonderful idea! I'll add that in. I was hoping I'd get some suggestions like this.

that seems like a good email to send. i hope someone has reconsidered.

but ya know.

i would NEVER EVER NEVER EVER give a pet of mine away on a classifieds. I'd be a regular social worker to make sure it was the RIGHT HOME. so i'm thinking people who post their pets for free on craigslist, like the pets are junk furniture, aren't going to care that much :(

any positive responses?

I think that posting ads about selling/ giving away animals is prohibited on Craigslist as well, so you can flag their add as such.

Rehoming with a small adoption fee is allowed. Selling is not. I have started flagging people though.

People are not happy about the flagging.
I'm not happy about them simply giving away there animals. It works out nicely.
