For those of you that didn't know, Animal Rights has gone into politics... a party that includes left and right wingers, vegans and vegatarians. They got in Parliament in the 2006 Dutch election, becoming the first Animal-focused party in the world to become elected. Yes, I voted for them :)
Unfortunately the leader "Marianne Thieme" isn't the best debater, but her collegue Esther Ouwehand is very very good.
Of course they are a bit of the laughing stock in the house of parliaments and a lot of people get angered by them (them, that don't want to hear how bad eating meat is for the environment), every speech M.T. makes she ends with: 'and we want a stop on factory farming'.
And, the amount of bills is something thats unfortunately also used against them. The department of Agriculture, nature and food quality says they had to get two workers JUST for the handling of the bills by the party for the animals.

Marianne T. also made a movie 'Meat the Truth', about meat & the environment. The bits Al Gore left out.

That's interesting ... a victory, but in the same token a possible deterrent to those not into animal rights. But still, I'm impressed.
