Some even make fun of McDonald's customers.

It gets worse.

I stopped reading right there.

To give a more fair response: I've been aware of "orthorexia" for quite a while now, and I do believe it exists. Erm, kind of. People do become obsessive-compulsive about the purity of their food--I've read quite a few horror stories about CRON, for example--but Bratman is disgustingly ridiculous in defining and diagnosing the problem, which is why (I hope) he'll never be taken seriously. To insist that a vegan diet is an eating disorder is to make light of an incredibly painful and gripping mental illness.
I'm currently in recovery after about nine years of EDs, and moving from vegetarianism toward veganism has helped me one hell of a lot.

I completely agree. To suggest that a veg*n or raw food diet is an any way equivocal to an eating disorder is totally off-base. They can occur independently or together, but they are not the same thing and to suggest otherwise is both disrespectful to veg*ns and ED sufferers and completely wrong on a clinical level.

5. Do you have trouble remembering that love and joy and play and creativity are more important than food?

..What the fuck type question is that?

You know what's fucked up about that - it totally contradicts the ideas. People who sit around and eat junk food all the time while they stare at the boob tube are the ones missing out on all the love and joy and play and creativity.... Not the people who actually have energy enough to get of their asses.

The Chicago Tribune has been getting on my vegan-nerves lately. They recently had an article on vegan shoes, which was neat but part of the article's title was "even carnivores step out in vegan footwear". No, they don't, because no human beings are carnivores. AHHHHHHH!

HA! If one more person says, "Sorry, I'll always be a carnivore" to me, I'm gonna go insane. It's getting to the point where I like making them feel stupid by telling them they've never been a carnivore and never will be. It's amazing how little people know about what food they put into their body on a daily basis.

They think that just because they eat like a carnivore, they are carnivores. I'm sure they'll be bragging about that when they have to carry a bag around with shit in it because they had to have their colon removed.

sometimes sounded like it agreed with bratman and then at times mocked him.

I totally agree! Such a strange article - I had a hard time figuring out the article's POV.

I've known people who are definitely obsessed with their diet, but the Doctor seems to paint all v*gans with a broad brush of obsession.

if society wasn't so keen on making me sick, i wouldn't be so keen on watching everything i ate

this. it would be a hell of a lot easier to remember that roller skates and care bears and rainbows are the true meaning of life, or whatever bullshit that quiz said, if we didn't also have to remember that e.coli and radioactive isotopes and god knows what else are in all the damn food.

i just have this one thing to say: if society wasn't so keen on making me sick, i wouldn't be so keen on watching everything i ate.

Pretty much! I love how they're trying to vilify healthy eating choices.

Obviously, it's just some douche payed by the government to scare those who have started thinking about getting away from unnecessary medications and junk food [ohnoes!] to stop and continue on with their unhealthy, costly, and deadly habits. :P

The government makes so much money off that crap, I really think they want America to be and stay obese. D:

But yeah. That's totally ridiculous.
