The Safety of Soya

Apr 13, 2008 19:18

The Vegetarian & Vegan Foundation gets so many questions based on misinformation about soya (or soy, to those across The Pond) that it's launched a new website all about the best research on the subject, The Safety Of Soya.

The site contains a section on myth-busting, FAQs, the environmental impact of soya, the latest research, the VVF's factsheets ( Read more... )

yeah - I'm glad they raised the point of the estrogen in cows milk as animal estrogen imitates our own more-so. I'm disappointed as they said there have not been more studies done on estrogen in cows milk but really I hadn't been about to find much on it in my own googling.
I think that arguement alone would shut people up about (phyto)estrogen in soy... unless they don't have soy OR cows milk..

Great link! thanks!

When you look at their White Lies campaign, the levels of oestrogen in milk is a major plank of their argument. It ties in with health problems for consumers, and it clearly demonstrates the effects of permanent pregnancy on cows.

and when I said "about" I meant "able"
Awesome.. I couldn't find this stuff a couple years back when I was specifically looking for it.

whoops.. had a second look and that White Lies doesn't seem to say that much more on the subject of estrogen levels in milk than the other link.....?

Yay! Thank you. :^)

One of my roommates has thyroid problems--she doesn't eat much soy at all. She eats tuna fish almost every day, though. EW.

Any time. She might be interested in their Fishing For Facts campaign...

Thanks very much. There doesn't seem to be much on soy contributing to infertility issues though, which is the one thing that worries me. x

I couldn't find any information on any studies showing any correlation in all the time I looked for it. Of course, Asia doesn't seem to be having a problem with underpopulation.

You know, the world is awash with misinformation. It's entirely normal to be affected by what's around you.
