When I am confronted by the fact that (technically) B12 cannot be [directly] conceived from non-animal sources, I remind them of "cyanacobalamin", a fortifier used in almost all silk products and many products, vegan or otherwise, that are "B12 fortified" While cyanacobalamin is not B12, it can be converted to such.

On another note, excesses in vitamin C will convert B12 into an inactive form.

The point about cyanacobalamin was made by Walsh in the talk I attended. He was very careful to point it out to people, especially those concerned about the issue of paying for supplementation. Thanks :)
