Oh but it gets better... Taronga Park imported elephants illegally from Thailand (activists there blocked the shipment by lying down in front of the vehicles). And they had a rhino die last year- and they didn't know she was pregnant until the autopsy!
Yes this is one of Australia & the world's leading zoos...
And why would you reply without reading the link (just curious)?
i did like two weeks work experience at taronga zoo some nine or so years ago, and the behinds the scenes shit is worse. They had a squirrel monkey with a broken arm while i was there, i thought nothing of it at the time, but how the hell does one of those break its arm anyhow? I also worked with he man and burma (the two elephants that were there at the time) and they looked damn miserable, i was only shovelling their shit because apparently burma is aggressive and dangerous. i wonder why.
hmm.. not a zoo, but in the catagory of having captive animals for people to go look at. http://www.parc-omega.com/ I think they have the predators in smaller enclosers. The there is Little Ray's Reptile Zoo which display at the local fair and they say "We are the largest reptile rescue in Canada, assisting the Humane Society and SPCA in rescuing and placing unwanted pet reptiles across the country" http://www.raysreptiles.com/about/
Sometimes I don't know what to think... and I guess that is why I am curious what others do and post it here.
