Disgusting. When I'm on my deathbed and my final wish is to kill every hunter in the world, will they find that acceptable? I mean, it makes sense to me.. =P

"what do you say to these people? i'm sure this woman has heard a lot of animal rights arguments (perhaps inbetween her being "threatened bodily" by AR activists), but they seem to just strengthen her resolve."

I think that when someone is that heartless and disconnected with life, and trying to reason with them has failed - then it's time to turn to Hunt Saboteurs style direct action. http://www.plymouth-hunt-sabs.org.uk/

Despite the horror of hunting as a wish for sick or dying kids, I think the best thing would to leave these kids and their families be. Your perspective on life changes when someone close to you is dying and morals are furtherest from your mind.

I think the focus should be on fixing the culture that celebtrates hunting prowess, than on targeting and shutting down a group trying to do what they believe is the best for their children.

You can interfere with their hunts, or you can work to create an environment where children wouldn't even think to ask for hunting as their ultimate wish.

Impact of sick/dying children hunting one kill... minimal.
Impact of an entire culture/sport of death... do the math.

And no, I don't like this situation one bit. I think it's terrible and I think hunting is disgusting. But I think the solution needs to be larger than directing outrage at a not-for-profit kids charity.

I believe in opposing animal exploitation from as many angles as possible.

So I've noticed, and I think you do a great job for the AR movement. I just can't agree with your chosen methods here. It's not right for me, though it works well for you. That's fine. We both want the same thing, we just have diffent ways of getting it.

I'll do my thing and lobby against hunting (as much as I can as a non-US and non-Canadian resident), and you'll tackle it from your end with your methods, and hopefully with time, hunting won't be considered a sport, it will be seen as an atrocity.

Every effort helps.

Ah, yeah I agree with you there. There are millions of people involved in animal rights, and each person has a talent or skill in a certain area - so if communicating with people and educating people in order to change society's attitudes towards animals works best for you, then that's awesome if you're out there doing that. I responded the way I did, before, because I thought you were saying that everyone should focus solely on change in just one way.

I mean she is obviously fucked.

Obvious disgust aside, I wonder how successful or well-supported this thing is. What kid is really going to turn down anything else to go sit in the woods for hours waiting for something to shoot?

It just sounds like one crazy woman venting, really.

Yeah, crazy hurt woman whose son died in April 1999 at the age of 19. I can't fathom why shooting an animal you probably wouldn't even dream of skinning and eating would be your dying wish, but it was his, and the mother seems to have fixated on it. God only knows why.

"The anticipation of the hunt, his mother says, kept her son going through many months of pain.
"He kept saying, I'll be all right because I'm going on that moose hunt," she recalls."

"While Tina was being interviewed for this story, a Florida guide called to offer a free alligator hunt each year."

What the fuck?

I answered my own question after glancing over the site a little more. The only people willing to fund the project are, of course, hunting gear suppliers.
