Veggie restaurants in NY

Apr 16, 2007 21:23

I'm going to New York this weekend, and wanted to know where there were any good vegetarian restaurants around. I'm going with a friend who's not veg, so just a vegetarian restaurant would be good. I'm not sure if we'll be eating in Brooklyn or NYC (cause we're going to a show in Brooklyn, but we get off the bus in NYC ( Read more... )

Just so you know, Brooklyn is in NYC. Manhattan is what you're thinking of as 'NYC.' ;)

Personally I think the subways are super-easy to figure out, but I'm also a native New Yorker, and my friends joke that I'm a savant with public transportation. My best friend in LA calls me to ask how he can get from point a to point b by public transportation and I've been there once.

Basically, there's a big map of the subway most places. But I think you'll be fine. Subways come very often, so don't worry about missing them or anything.

Have fun in NYC! Brooklyn is so much fun lately, my sister just moved to Park Slope.

Haha, I had figured that out about Brooklyn being in NYC. It's a little confusing, but I think I understand.

Do the subways run really late? 'Cause I'm not sure when we're getting out of the show. The person we're excited about seeing starts at 10:30.

almost all the lines run 24/7! The only exception I can think of right now is the L train, which stops at midnight during the week, but runs all night on the weekend. Don't worry, it's all very easy and comprehensible!

They run all night. Sometimes the routes change slightly (expresses become local), but they do run all night.

NYC is made up of five boroughs--Manhattan, the place with all the skyscrapers that everyone thinks of as NYC, Brooklyn, Queens, which are on LI, Staten Island, which is its own island, and the Bronx, which is on the mainland.

Brooklyn is in NYC, you're just thinking of Manhattan probably.
You can get a little map at most street corners detailing the subway system but there are maps on every car and at every station. You will have no problems. I prefer the subways to buses anyday.

From PA to the address you listed above I'd take the A downtown (it'll be right in PA) to Fulton St-Broadway Nassau, and then take the Brooklyn-bound M to Prospect. There are other ways, that's just off the top of my head.

I'm no New York expert -- I've visited exactly once -- but I LOVED the buses and hated the subways, because the buses are above ground and you can see all the people and places as you go. If you see something cool and want to get off a few blocks early to go check it out, you can. To me, the subways were dark and dingy and depressing. Yes, you get where you're going quickly, but first there's all this waiting around underground. I suppose it depends on what you're doing: If you want to get from point A directly to point B, then take the subway. If you're not in a hurry and you want to experience the city as you go, then take a bus. My two cents, YMMV, all disclaimers apply.

I don't mind taking the subways if I need to get somewhere, I take the subways every week in Boston. However, since I want to see the city, a bus might work for the daytime. Or nighttime too. We'll see
