probiotics

kind of unrelated but...
i know some of you have mentioned that you take probiotics for IBS. my boyfriend has agreed too start taking them if i tell him what and where to get it, but i don't know which ones to tell him to take. i see that a lot of them have similar ingredients but they vary slightly. anybody have any recommendations?

Probiotics are basically "good" intestinal flora (here's an article on intestinal flora and how they work, and here's another, from the BBC).

Lactobacilli plantarum are, apparently, the most important, and prebiotics, such as oatmeal, are supposed to be very helpful. My understanding is that you need a high concentration of living bacteria in them. I did find this IBS diet information sheet from UPMC's patient education programme, and this article on WebMD about effective probiotics for IBS.

thanks! i've heard recommendations for "florify" but it doesn't have that one in it. hmm.

If I'm not mistaken, probiotics are often found a lot in "fermented" foods such as miso, tempeh, and yoghurt.

yeah - i'm looking for a supplement. my boyfriend is pretty unwilling to make any diet changes. thank you though!
