attack of the mosquitos

Maybe it's just me, but whenever I am visiting my parent's at the jersey shore, i am litteraly eaten alive by mosquitos. I just went outside for 3 minutes, and I got 4 or 5 mosquito bites. I HAVE A MOSQUITO BITE ON MY EYEBROW. I currently have about 19 mosquito bites covering my body. My one friend said it's because mosquitos are attracted to ( Read more... )

It's just because you're so sweet :)

Peppermint, eucalyptus, tea tree, lavender, citronella, and thyme essential oils are insect repellents; add them to your shower gel and shampoo or put them in your body lotion to keep the insects away (we always do this when camping - I like a mix of peppermint, eucalyptus, and lavender), and make up a small spray bottle of water and essential oils and shake before spraying on your hat and shoes and clothing.

Lavender essential oil can be put straight on your skin to heal up the bites; bicarbonate of soda [baking soda] made into a paste with water and put on the bites until it dries out will also help heal them up.

i'm a total mosquito magnet as well. I don't know about the B vitamin thing...I doubt it. but it is definitely a matter of body chemistry. some people are just more attractive to the little biters.

my personal tips:

-eat loads of garlic.

-buy or make a natural bug repellent in a spray bottle -- a solution containing a little eucalyptus and citronella essential oils should do the trick.

-if you are bitten, one of the best things to heal and stop the itching is Derma E brand Tea Tree & E creme. I actually use this as an all-purpose creme. it's great for any thing itchy or irritated: rashes, sunburn, minor burns, cuts, zits, dryness, flakiness, etc. I could go on and on about this stuff. it's miraculous. and a little goes a long way, so don't freak out that it runs about $10 a pop -- it's a great deal and you get a lot of product.

I read a study recently that it's a genetic thing that attracts mosquitoes- not your vitamins.

i've had a lot less bites since turning vegan - lots of garlic helps, plus maybe some hing or other "smelly" indian food

Heh, I don't know how well that one works because my girlfriend, who's indian and eaten indian food all her life, attracts more mosquitoes than i ever thought humanly possible. We'll both go outside for ten minutes and I'll have nary a bite and she'll have 20. She's vegan now, but this has been plaguing her her whole life, and nothing seems to help. I'd say it's genetic.

don't know how to stop them biting (wish i did know), but i've always found that dabbing vinegar on the bites is the best thing to stop them itching.
