Hi, I've been a vegetarian for 3 and a half years, and I'm really thinking of becoming a vegan. However, my family says it would be too "unhealthy" because I would get even less vitamins then I'm getting now (even though I do take vitamins.) Any help convincing them? I really wish to become vegan.

folic acid & b 12 suplements++++

also, plan out your diet. i end up eating about 5 medium sized meals a day with various fruits, veggies, nuts and beans.. try to get some whole protein combinations(hummus and pita bread for example). you really have to vary your diet a lot and get all corners though in order to stay in top shape.

fruits and vegetables are freaking filled with vitamins and the like. that doesn't make any sense to me.

no.. like calcium, protein, things you can't get from fruits and veggies...

Some fruits and vegetables actually have protein - things like peas, legumes, obviously soybeans. I think some have calcium too, like strawberries. You'll have to do some research.

I was veggie for over a year. and i just felt like going vegan. I deffinatly cant say im healthy, but i feel fine. I just started taking pills for iron and shit. If your going to do it, dont give up. Im sure by now you should know almost everything about being a vegan. so Its not going to be to hard. Give it a try.

Good Luck :)

There is a rule of thumb I read before I turned vegan for the first time. One third pulse to 2 thirds grain is to your body, in that combination, what meat is - class A protein. If you think about it, much of the world is surviving on this; dhal and rice, rice 'n' peas, spouts and noodles all satisfy this requirement, as does beans on toast ( ... )

it would be a good idea to get a vegan nutrition "so you're going vegan..." type book with information about what you need to eat and why a veg diet is better off. you could highlight passages or ask your family to read certain parts, it might help to see it in print.
