I jumped straight into a vegan diet from a meat-eating one three days ago. I'm still reading up and doing my research, but I feel very determined to continue with this. I'm a headfirst kind of person when it comes to pretty much anything I do, and I've found that diving straight into things is generally the best approach for me. Besides, I didn't ( Read more... )

why don't you try drinking a soy, rice, or almond milk? They could help with cravings and nutrients.

I've got rice and almond milk and am downing them like crazy. I can't decide which one I like better yet, haha. They're definitely helping with the cravings a little bit.

I'm not sure about dairy specifically, but I know when I feel lethargic or sick it usually is because I am not getting enough protein. You might try eating beans, nuts, hummus, tofu, and see if the added protein also give you an energy boost. Hopefully someone else can give you advice more focused on dairy.

Hmm, I didn't even think of a lack of protein possibly contributing to the problem. I've been eating nuts and beans but probably not as much as I need to be. Thank you for the tip!

Mental-wise-- try eating and drinking full-fat fake dairy
Physically-- try eating coconut milk, avocado, nuts, etc., healthy fats-- maybe they'll fill you up the way dairy once did.
I don't know what's going on with (I'm no doctor or nutritionist) but I know it took me a long time to get used to eating vegan health-wise. I ate like crap for years (take-out meat and cheesy junk) and maybe the transition to actual vegetables and legumes, etc. was a shocker.
Don't give up! It's the most worthwhile thing I ever did--it'll change your life in every way, all good.

I second the protein, and I'd add some fat. Dairy scratched a fatty itch, even if it's reduced fat dairy it's still creamy and has that fatty feeling. I'd say dig into some guacamole or coconut milk ice cream or something nice and fatty and indulgent (but you know, the good fats, not a bag of Oreos or something) (did you know Oreos are vegan in the states? it's good to know for desperate times)

So yeah, a good shot of protein and a good dose of fat, and also just keep in mind that you're body is going to go through a 'detox' transition type period. It just may suck for a bit. But then, all of a sudden you'll feel better than you ever had and it will totally blow your mind. Promise. =)

I ate a salad chock full of peanuts and some vegan ice cream and already I'm feeling much better. I'm definitely going to invest in some guacamole -- I love the stuff, anyway.

Yeah, the detox period isn't fun, but I know how amazing I'm going to feel in a few days so I'm keeping strong. :)

Eat Avocado & Full fat coconut milk. I don't drink the coconut milk, I add it to curries or make ice cream out of it. It seriously helps.

Also, get some protein! :-)

Good luck!
