Beancurd sheets

Oct 27, 2012 13:10

Hello all!

Last time I was in the US I came across this delicious thing called beancurd on chinese restaurants. I wonder if I could make some at home, but the only thing google raked up with recipies that contained already made beancurd and nothing about how to make it at home.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

bean curd sheets is also called yuba. It's the skin that forms on the top of the pot when cooking the freshly made soymilk for making tofu.

if you include "nigari" or "coagulant" in your search of the how-to, I'm sure it'll pop up the directions you want (also, I'm sure searching for "homemade beancurd" or "homemade tofu" would also show some good results. good luck.)

burmese tofu is made from chickpeas. (but i don't think it creates yuba, unfortunately.)

might take some experimenting, but im sure you can make 'tofu' and thus possibly also the skin from other beans
if you try please do post of your experiences!!

Sadly I think I won't be trying. I'm not supposed to be eating much soy and none of my vegeterian/vegan friends are into tofu much :(

Ah, I meant NOT from soybeans. But, say, mung beans, or black beans, or some other bean you are to be eating and have available fresh?
