I make something like this with just the ice cubes, peanut butter, chocolate, banana, and soymilk a lot- it never occurred to me to put espresso or coffee in it! I think I will try that.

I do it like you do, but I don't use ice because I keep most my prepped fruit frozen, and I also throw in strawberries.

The coffee would make it rather unpleasant for me. :)

I don't always use coffee - mostly mid-semester when i'm buried in exams & projects!
I actually change the recipe around a bit occasionally :)
I use frozen strawberries &/or peaches when I have them instead of ice too

I like the spices for sure, but i worry about combining fruit with anything else as that combination creates acidity. While the peanut butter may have protein, it isn't the best for the body so I'd use almond). If we are talking truly healthy, then cocoa isn't the healthiest either.
Im going to try almond butter, almond milk and the spices, maybe even a tsp of greens too. I like cayenne as well, but I usually can't put more than 1/2 tsp in a glass of water with the juice of one lemon, dash of lime and sometimes a touch of agave. 

Sorry but I found your reply a bit brusque.
As far as I know, cocoa [especially unsweetened organic cocoa] is good for you in small amounts - everything in moderation, eh? Also, this has no added sugar/sweetener whatsoever. I don't always use peanut butter but on long days days I have this and then don't eat for the next 10 hours as I have a busy schedule. Also, I am a student, and almond butter is more expensive, but definitely a good alternate. To each their own :)

This is definitely a healthy alternative to any smoothie you can buy anywhere - those are loaded with sugars and artificial flavors and often super processed ingredients.

The last thing you described is basically the master cleanse recipe, which i do occasionally - but the point of that is cleansing & detox, much different from something easy, tasty, not pre-packaged/processed that will keep me going through the day.

Oh, man. I made this for something resembling sustenance/energy before a grueling rehearsal, though I subbed in some chocolate hemp protein powder instead of the PB and threw in some applesauce as I didn't have any bananas. Delicious spicy chocolatey coffee goodness.

This was SO good! Definitely a part of my new breakfast routine.

I used about 1/3 banana because all I had were super ripe ones and I didn't want the flavor to overpower the rest of the shake. I was thinking of adding some protein powder in the future, but it's so good I'm not sure that I want to change it!

oi! I have tried it with protein powder when I first started making it, and it is gross! haha. unless you maybe use chocolate flavored protein powder, but that usually has added sugar. Good luck!

P.s. when I have super ripe bananas, I just double everything and save the extra in the fridge or freezer for later :)
