Y-you eat them in the shell? Everything I've read says not to and the shells are absolutely impossible to eat x_x

You split open the shell and eat the insides....like pistachios. ;)

Ooh. It seems strange that all the seasoning would be on the shells then! Either way I'm sure they're tasty ;)

You hold the pods and fire the beans inside into your mouth - the salt sort of starts to get everywhere on your hands, but it's all yumminess.
I actually cook my edamames in salt water... that way it seeps through to the bean inside the pod, but I always serve it still inside the pod.
