Why are you doing the master cleanse? I thought it was a huge scam that does more bad to the body than good. A good "detox" diet would be giving the liver a break from hepatotoxins.

i just needed a break from everything and i wanted to do a good cleanse for the end of the year. i dont have a juicer and wanted to do something relatively inexpensive. i have tried juice diets before. i actually havent heard anything bad about the master cleanse.

where did you hear this? i ask because my boyfriend and his boss are huge supporters of the master cleanse and neither one of them have experienced negative effects of the detox. they say that when done right, the detox is very effective and healthy.

my boyfriend is the manager of a local health food store, and his boss is the owner and a CN, so i'm not giving anecdotal evidence from joe shmoe and mary sue, lol. but if there is something that they should know, i'd like to pass it on. tia.

Basically, detoxification using that method is a myth. Your liver will do the job just fine. As far as having a holistic diet goes, one could abstain from high fructose corn syrup and transfats for the rest of their life, and think of that as detoxification. If you do these low-fiber detox diets too much, it can lead to diverticulosis later on in life, which is the opposite of detoxing.

If your BF works at a local health food store, then he may be pushing a lot of people to consume high protein. Too much protein ingestion can cause ketoacidosis (which is what Atkins dieters aim for) and ketoacidosis can lead to renal failure if not corrected. I think renal failure is usually seen in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, but this rising trend in high protein diets may show a different trend in the future. People who fast are at risk for developing ketoacidosis because the body starts to break down fat and protein due to the lack of dietary carbohydrates.

You might want to try joining raw_veganism .

Here is my favorite raw soup:

Lately I've been pouring it over a pile of sprouts. I'm also really into raw sushi [essentially just sushi without the rice] and seaweed salad, which is soaked and drained seaweed [I use laver, arame and dulse], sesame oil, braggs and raw sesame seeds.

julienned vegetables wrapped in nori, served with nama shoyu and wasabi.
essentially sushi - the dish - without rice. or fish.
