Meals at Work

Hi everyone! So, I start work soon for the summer at Sesame Place, and since I've recently turned vegan, I have no idea what I'm going to do for meals.  The only food places nearby are Chik-Fila (sp?) and some other chain places like Burger King, and the only thing relatively meat-free is some shriveled salad with mysterious dressing.  You can see ( Read more... )

If you can keep things at least semi-cold, I would bring salads, green and otherwise. On the weekend make up a huge batch of pasta salad, then bring a serving a day, or any other leftovers you have. I'm a huge fan of the pasta salads though. Also, things that don't need any refrigeration, like pb&j, bagels, granola bars, fruit, etc.
As to the tummy-yucky question, what sorts of foods have you been eating that make it feel that way?

I love pasta salad too, that's such a great idea.

I honestly have no idea what's been triggering the stomach issues. Last week I ate tomato pie that the waitress swore to me was vegan at a pizza place with my family, and my stomach's been messed up ever since, no matter what I eat. It's the weirdest thing, my stomach's never done this before.

You know there's been a big Salmonella outbreak in tomatoes right? I wouldn't even suggest that was the problem except that you mention tomatoes.

I think Pennsylvania was marked ok for tomatoes.

Everything that I've ever been told to eat with a sour stomach is already vegan - bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, ginger ale, peppermint tea.

Yes the BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) diet!! My mom is a firm believer in it.

My work has food-stealers too, I usually just bring something frozen and keep it with me at my desk, it's slightly thawed by lunch and so takes a little less time in the microwave, which is another bonus.

as for your stomach, camomile or peppermint tea really really work to make it (at least a bit) better. also, stick to salted things as the vomiting makes your body lose lots of important minerals! as soon as you can keep things down again, go for vegetable soups and potato-things, they´re easy to digest... GOOD LUCK and gett better soon :)
also - big YAAY for turning vegan!!! :D

we had a lunch stealer at my job last year. everyday several people's lunches would go missing but everyday i'd put a note on my lunch that said something like, "THIS IS NOT MEAT, IT IS SOY BOLONGA! YOU WON'T LIKE IT SO DON'T STEAL IT!" yeah, perhaps it was an overuse of exclamation marks but i never got my lunch stolen.

so, i am seconding you "vegan lunch" note. i think it will help tremendously when you do have to use the fridge.
