Check for KoJel in the Kosher or Jewish markets. i get mine at the QFC in our city that has the largest Kosher foods section. Makes good 'jello' for the kids, too. :D

Oh... if you do find Kojel, i use between 1/2 and 2/3 of the water it calls for to get a good set-up.

Well I know I can buy vegan marshmallows but I rather make 40 homemade marshmallows for the price of buying something that I may not like

I've got some Kojel in my cabinet from the online store Pangea, but they don't seem to be stocking it at this time. If you just want a gooey marshmallowy consistency/flavor, like for rice krispy treats, there's that ricemellow fluff stuff, which isn't bad.

Have you tried agar? It's pricey as hell most places and from most health food brands, but international markets carry it ridiculously cheap, if you have one nearby. International markets often have aisles for kosher/Israeli products, so Kojel/similar items will likely be available there.

And are you using a veg recipe or trying to convert an omni one? My mom used to make marshmallows with Martha Stewart's recipe and I've been itching to try it out with non-animal gelatin...

thats the recipe I need to try next (even though the one i used was exactly the same just a smaller amount)
and i have fluff I just rather make something I can put on a stick or stuff my mouth to the point where words sound funny.

and I thought about agar, but I've heard it fails the marshmallow test. Its better if you want to make fluff..
Im hoping it was just the fact I didnt use white corn syrup and maybe my thermometer was too old.
*crosses fingers*

Note: I have to find KoJel!
