I got curious whilst looking at all the fudge recipes I have that require marshmellows and just wondered if there was a recipe online for vegan marshmallows. I found this recipe and was just wondering if anyone had a similar one or a good experiance in trying to make their own ( Read more... )

thanks, but I looked at those entries and either the links didnt work or the recipes required that ems gelatin that I heard was found out to contain animal products.

My friends say they have made them using the recipe in the original Joy of Cooking and subbing agar *powder* (not flakes) for the gelatin, but I didn't get to try any of the results, so I'm not sure if they're good or not :)

my local co-op sells "ricemellow fluff" that is absolutely fantastic. it tastes exactly like marshmallow creme (with no refined sugars) and i used it to make s'mores once and it turned out delicious.

Seconded, I've used that stuff to make fudge before too and it turned out perfectly. It seems like making your own might be too much trouble!!

i tried last spring to make marshmallows several times from recipes that people claimed worked - and only ended up with a very sticky mess that wouldn't set. i gave up and ordered vegan marshmallows online: http://www.veganstore.com/food-items/vegansweets-products/vegansweets-marshmallows/Page_4/850.html

however what i got looked nothing like the picture and was very grainy in comparison to traditional marshmallows. but they tasted good and made rice krispies.

i'd be interested in knowing if you succeed.
