I just wanted to agree with this, it works. :c) If you have a big enough oven, you could fit, say, four pans in their to reheat or bake just before dinner.
check your bakeware... perhaps there's something you could warm up on the stove instead? I have corningware (thanks mom! I be broke), so that's an option for me, depending on the dish. It wouldn't work for anything layered, as the bottom would always be hotter than the top, y'know? Works great for mashed taters, sauer kraut, and reheating greenbean casserole, though.
I've made greenbean casserole in the microwave before. It comes out a little different, but pretty much the same. It doesn't get the slightly crunchy beans around the edge of the dish, and it seems that slightly less water cooks out of the dish... but no one complained, and leftovers were gone in 24 hours. :c)
sorry I can't help with the sweet potatoes... I've never eaten one I've liked, so I never bothered once I cooked my own t-day meals.
