chana daal

i have some chana daal that i want to cook tonight. every website i've looked at reccomends soaking it over night. is there a faster alternative? also, i am pretty sure that yellow lentils are *not* the same thing as chana daal which is actually closer to the chickpea, correct?

beans-split peas, beans-lentils

i think red lentils are the fastest to prepare from their dry state, but i'm almost positive that chikpeas are what's in chana. you could pick up a can of them?

i only have chana daal and can't really make it to the store tonight. chickpeas are different than chana daal. chana daal looks like yellow lentils but is different i think. but thanks for the suggestions.

Chana dal is like a small split chickpea.

The fastest way to cook legumes is with a pressure cooker. I just cooked some (full size) chickpeas tonight in my pressure cooker and it took exactly one hour from start to finish.

Quick soak: rinse them, put them in a pot, cover generously with water, bring the whole thing to a boil, then turn off the heat and let soak for an hour. Then cook as directed, usually another hour or two.

It cooks fairly fast. If you have access to a pressure cooker, that might work well.
