1) does anyone have a good recipe/site/etc for low calorie/low sugar breakfasts? (high fiber is an added plus but i won't push my luck) i am a high school student, so i'm leaning more towards something that would require minimal prep/clean up/time to make (or something i could make and slowly eat over the process of a week ( Read more... )

I don't know how low calorie it is because I really don't pay attention to that sort of thing but...

banana with almond butter... for added fiber you can dip it in forti-flax or super seed.

Smoothies are always a winner. It's a good way to sneak in a lot of those super important things it might be hard to get otherwise in your busy scedule (EFAs, fiber, etc.) Use water instead of fruit juice (it's better to use the actual fruit, you get more fiber and nutrients that way). Anywhoo, I throw in:
water
a banana
organic blueberries or strawberries (use whatever fruit you like or have around)
spoonfull of almond butter
protein powder (I like supreme meal by peaceful planet or vanilla protein energizer by rainbow light).
Scoop of fiber (forti flax or super seed).
Tablespoon of flax oil.

I know that already sounds like a pretty intense smoothie... but sometimes I also add a scoop of greens powder (I really like vitamineral greens)

Hope that helps.

this is going to sound bizarre, but i learned from someone else in this community that if you toss a few dark chocolate chips into homemade tomato sauce, it becomes that much richer (though not at all chocolatey).
i would assume the same would be true of a wee bit of chocolate extract :)

oatmeal is always a good breakfast. i love to put dried fruit, agave syrup, nuts, and shredded coconut in mine. it's low-calorie and high-fiber.

1)
1/4 cup dry oat bran (90 Calories)
1 tbsp ground flaxseed (30 Calories)
1 tbsp cocoa powder (10 Calories)
~1 cup water
Stevia, to taste

Put the oat bran and the water into a bowl and microwave until it starts boiling up (about 3 minutes). Take out of microwave, and stir in the cocoa and flaxseed and sweeten with stevia. 130 Calories, 100% of your omega-3's, plenty of protein, and about 25% of your fiber requirement to boot :). It's probably too low Calorie if you're planning to do anything strenuous, so adding unsweetened soymilk will boost the protein a bit.

Smoothies! They only take a few minutes. I make mine without any water or ice, and just throw some of the fruit (cut it up!) into the freezer the night before. Blend it up, scrape down the sides every minute or so until it starts to get creamy, and enjoy.

I usually use bananas, mixed frozen berries from the supermarket, strawberries.
I throw in some peanut butter(or other nut butter) fairly often too, to add some protein.

You could also add some fiber powder, but you would probably have to add some water in that case.

Simple oatmeals are good too. I've been messing around with savory foods instead of sweets in my oatmeal. Like onions. It's delicious.
